I’m a Compulsive Domain Buyer!
My credit card was hit with 2 very expensive domain purchases this week. Gamer.ph and Dev.ph, each costing $70.00 or P2,870 with the current exchange rate. A total of P5,740! This is just for a 2 year registration period, you can have a .com for 5 to 7 years with that amount.
I didn’t even know what to do with these domains when I purchased them. It was a instinctive compulsive decision. I just thought they look good and have potential to become a good online brand. So I could probably consider my move as “investing” on a domain. I’m sure I’ll be able to think of something to do with them before they expire. Maybe even register these domains for a lifetime if they show some success.
For now, I turned gamer.ph into an aggregate site listing game related blogs maintained by Filipinos. These blogs were personally handpicked by me. I wanted regularly updated blogs with interesting and relevant content that even I would be willing to read. The site also somehow serves as my publicly viewable personal rss reader.
My recent purchase is dev.ph. I still don’t know exactly what to do with it but I’m sure it will have something to do with “dev” or development. I’m already thinking of reviving the old pinoyforum.net community of aspiring Filipino game developers by setting up game.dev.ph, cool huh?
I can see why .ph domains are expensive, it’s all about branding. But inevitably the price will go down as the number of available good domains shrink.
I would also like to commend dotPH’s very fast processing of orders although their site seems a bit slow at times.
